it's the chase
you know what i'd like to see in a car chase scene in a movie? the actual car of the protagonist running out of gas. that's right mister action star you should've checked the fuel gauge before macho hot wiring that car. serves you right.

take me out tonight
i was planning on sleeping after watching the first in-flight movie, whatever works (which didn't really worked for me, whatever.) and after eating that late hefty delicious dinner (who said that airline food can't be good?). but as i was adjusting my seat, reclining it in the optimal comfortable position, 500 days of summer started playing. i missed the first ten minutes of the film the first time i saw it with my friends so i decided to watch what i didn't saw and doze off afterwards. i ended up watching the whole movie, again. ehe.
*skip this if you're not fond of spoilers.
i really do feel for tom and my heartbreaks for him on day 290 and the days after that. the resolution of the movie (tom and summer meeting at the spot) didn't quell the betrayal i felt. "the end of summer and the beginning of a new season" was a little contrived for me, more of expectation rahter than reality, and was just a way to end it all in a good note.
realisticaly, this is how i think the movie should've ended.
alternate ending 1
after the cute banter with the girl, tom going in for the interview, then tom turns back around,
tom: excuse me.
girl: hmm?
tom: when this is over... uh... would you like to maybe... grab a cup of coffee or something?
girl: oh. i'm sorta supposed to meet someone.
tom: oh. got it... no problem.
[the end]
alternate ending 2
tom arrives at the interview. tom seats at the waiting area with a fat sweaty man, his competition.
[the end]

transformers: revenge of the fallen
transformers: rise of the fallen (ROTF) is like porn. you don't watch porn for the story (or lack thereof) or the superb acting (or lack therof), you watch it for the girls and well, sex. in the case of ROTF there's no lack of girls and sex. actually there was only one girl but she was more than enough. (*minor spoiler alert* there this was scene in the movie where megan fox was running in slow motion amidst the chaos in the background. man it reminded me of cj parker in that infamous red one piece bathing suit running in the beach in slow motion. rar!) well actually there was also no sex either in ROTF. instead of sex there were robots, a lot of robots. robots were the sex in ROTF. and they were simply eye-gasmic.
except for some minor gripes, like how one robot didn't live up to how bad ass he was in the animated series *cough-devastator-cough* and how sometimes the robot fight scenes can be confusing (which really was no surprise because one rendered robot alone is pretty much confusing what more if there were three in the screen slugging it out), i was pretty much satisfied with the movie. maybe because i had low expectations of it after reading the dismal reviews and seeing the low ratings it got in the net but more of because i was in it because of a girl and the robots. and oh, explosions too! (if you know what i mean. ehe.)

serial nice guy goes psycho boy
"i feel like putting a bullet between the eyes of every panda that wouldn't screw to save its species.
i want to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all the french beaches i'd never see.
i feel like destroying something beautiful."

i love twilight
every night before i go to bed i run my fingers across the spine of each book and i browse the pages that i've bookmarked and highlighted to relive each instance of edward, imagining him, his perfect body glistening as he sparkles like the stars diamonds.

actually
it was about the same time last year when i first watched love actually on oliver's huge huge plasma(?) screen. (was it last year or last last year? memory fail.) and i saw it again yesterday while i was trying to overcome procrastinating if when should i leave tseri's place. (tseri forgot to text you yesterday. anyhu, thanks my dear!Ü) this movie is quite long but such a joy to watch, how each character is somehow connected with each other and how love actually unravels for everyone as the story progresses. (think go's romantic comedy counterpart)
i especially liked prime minister david and chubby natalie's bit. but i'm biased because i crush you lovely natalie. right.
so which love story did you actually liked?

wizard
yesterday i bought another copy of juno. the dibidi had better picture quality compared to my previous copy and the bundle had a-tad-smaller-than-a-bond-paper-sized poster to boot. of course i watched the movie again and the deleted scenes with and without the commentaries from jason reitman and diablo cody(highest coolness name factor ever). and now i like it even more.
so now i' m giving away my other copy of juno to:
1. anyone who doesn't have a problem with piracy
2. a juno virgin
3. will give it again to someone with the above qualities once he/she is finished watching the film
i'm spreading the juno love.
i'll do this too with sideways and little miss sunshine once i get a hand on "better" copies of the movie. hmmm... and maybe smart people too. maybe.

back at you
i caught mr. & mrs. smith on free tv last weekend. i have to say that i was quite entertained. though it got me thinking, what the hell happened to doug liman between this film, the bourne series and then he going out to make jumper?
~~~
i think it's kind of ironic and funny that vince vaughn was in this film as john smith's (pitt) close associate.
~~~
it's also cool that i tank is wearing a fight club shirt when he was being interrogated by the smiths.
~~~
props to angelina jolie for always looking gorgeous.
jumper
x: like jumper the story was all over the place; christensen & jackson; lame action sequences
#: the idea
*: david's pad
3/10
don't watch this... please.
~~~
american gangster
x: too long; i would've enjoyed the movie more if there were more washington and crowe interactions
#: the ruthlessness of frank as a businessman; good performance from washington and crowe
*: frank collecting his money in the street with a jar
6.5/10
~~~
rambo
x: quite slow start; the main villain; the general, feels like a caricature, the cheeeesy lines
#: the action was unrelenting when it started; explosions; assorted body parts flying
*: rambo behind the gun
6/10
~~~
cloverfield
x: the intro (first 30 seconds of the film); stupid characters; camera work
#: casting unknown people make this film feel more "real"; the monster; camera work
*: the subway
7/10
~~~
martian child
x: dennis (coleman) is unappealing; continuity; bordering boring
#: the colors, the few cusack and peet scenes
*: night car scene
5/10
~~~
the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford
x: long, dragging and boring
#: the last 20 minutes of the movie; affleck in the last act
*: narration on the day before jesse james died
6/10
it's interesting, at least for me, to learn that i was born on the day that jesse james died.
~~~
the bucket list
x: i wished they have a longer list with more interesting things to do
#: freeman and nicholson on screen rapore; glad that sean hayes (jack in will & grace) is not gay; slimy edward cole
*: atop the pyramids
6.5/10
movie weekend
watched four movies during the weekend. after each movie i wrote down things that i liked(#), things that i didn't(x), and what to look forward to(*) about each movie. here are my thoughts, (mind you these are only first impressions)
beowulf
x: the cg characters are soulless
#: excellent rendering; malkovich and hopkins; fantastic action sequences (the one with the sea monsters remind me of god of war. rar!)
*: angelina jolie
7/10
~~~
atonement
x: there's about a total of 15 minutes of drag time; there's this line that cee (keira knightley) throws out that i felt was overused
#: the consistency of the characters; broiny, all of her; good story, great story telling
*: single shot(?) in the beach
9/10
~~~
3:10 to yuma
x: luke wilson as a cowboy? meh.; dragggggggging; the twist (in ben wade(russell crowe))
#: charlie played by ben foster; ben wade's quick draw shooting; character development
*: 3:00
7/10
~~~
juno
x: might leave an impression that teenage pregnancy is cool
#: the smart dialogue; excellent soundtrack; wonderful story; ellen page as juno (i love you juno! call me when you turn 18.)
*: the last scene
10/10
this is my new favorite next to sideways and little miss sunshine. go watch this!

i always associated a half filled glass of orange juice with authority. why? blame it on a scene the never ending story where bastian's father was talking to him during breakfast. weird that i can still remember that scene. amusing that after all these years i still find the never ending story to be entertaining.
note to self: must find me a copy of the last unicorn.

mtv 2007 movie awards spoof
~~~
not as good as the previous mtv awards spoofs but still great because we get to see something from the transformers. if you're not a fan of spoilers i suggest you to not watch this clip. (although the scene that was included has nothing to do with the storyline of the movie... i think. :P)
~~~
edit: they removed the video already? gah! that was quick! :S
o well, if you want to skip to the "good" part just go here. (bad frame rate. bah! :S)

you will not enjoy this
everybody is raving about 300. 300 this, 300 that. so just to be different let me tell you about the things that i didn't like about 300.
the trailer - don't get me wrong the trailer was well made but it's just that why did they have to put most, if not all, the freakin' good lines in the movie in the trailer? it kinda lessened the oomph factor of the lines when it was delivered in the movie. but not so much that it ruined the whole feel of the scene.
(and oh, i was relieved that leonidas has lines that he didn't screamed out.)
people in the movie house - oi, when i want a play by play commentary on the movie i am currently watching i'll go ask quinito henson to do so. nothing ruins the moment more when you go saying,
"lalaban pa yan. tignan mo. ... ... ay, hindi na. madami kasing kalaban e."
shut your trap man and watch the movie.
the news - apparently people in iran(?) are offended by the movie. a movie which is based on a graphic novel. a work of fiction. don't read too much into it. political and social undertones blah blah blah. just watch the movie and take it for what it is, just pure not-so-clean testosterone blood thirst induced carnage! yeh!
well that's about it. everything else about the movie is f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c.
