leaning into the afternoons

leaning into the afternoons,
i cast my sad nets towards your oceanic eyes.

there, in the highest blaze my solitude lengthens and flames;
its arms turning like a drowning man's.

i send out red signals across your absent eyes
that wave like the sea, or the beach by a lighthouse.

you keep only darkness my distant female;
from your regard sometimes, the coast of dread emerges.

leaning into the afternoons,
i fling my sad nets to that sea that is thrashed by your oceanic eyes.

the birds of night peck at the first stars
that flash like my soul when i love you.

the night, gallops on its shadowy mare
shedding blue tassels over the land.

have youe ever thought how many times a day a taxi driver encounters a passenger that would like to "follow that car"?

wouldn't it be better if people who use the escalators in makati would only occupy either the left or right side of the escalator leaving the other side free for other people in a hurry to scamper faster so that they wouldn't be behind slowpokes?

KOs and Reality
good week for tv: de la hoya got KO-ed; the blue eagles got knocked out; tiger woods and the US team got schooled; survivor started; the amazing race is almost over; the emmys are out; and the lotr keeps playing on hbo; and etc is always entertaining; although, i still miss community cable in LB, its better than any here in manila (kc may techTV :p).

my sister had her oathtaking yesterday (hippocratic) ; she can now officially sign my excuse letters!!!

posted by frank at 3:31 PM

7 Comments:FYI, wala nang TechTV dito..

By Nikki, at 6:05 PM

By frank, at 10:30 PM

speaking of eagles and KOs and lb... update na din kita frank:

eagles - 2 upsilon - 0

(2 headshots in a span of 4 days)... di ko gets bakit rumble ang tawag nila dun. 1 upsilon at 15+ na eagles.
tsk tsk

... sinabi ko bang may tubo sila lahat?

also, since na nkapanood na ako ng (lopsided) na rumble, ibig ba sbihin ggraduate na ako? hehe. :)

By mark, at 11:41 PM

By jem, at 11:03 AM

By frank, at 11:20 AM

mark, did you get splattered with blood? narinig mo ba kung paano mabale yung yung mga buto ng upsilon? hehe. sayang at 'di ako nakapanood ng rambol nung nasa LB pa ako. sapakan lang sa tapat ni oble yung nakita. tsk tsk.

taena. ang panget ng laban ni de la hoya. parang takot siyang sumapak. pero sabagay malaki naman kasi yung reach advantage and punching power ng kalaban. and talk about being undefeated for the last decade... looks like de la hoya's career is over. time to throw the towel.

(champion kasi e.) sayang at natalo yung junior team ng up. pero who cares, anyways...

hehe. survivor. papaka-adik na naman sa tv. hmm... mukhang okay si dolly at si eliza a.Ü syempre may john p. din for the ladies.

caught the emmys last night. ang ganda! lalo na yung bit where they bid farewell to great comedy shows. pati nung lumabas na yung presentors ng best reality (reality nga ba?) show. their expressions were priceless. at syempre kahit ayaw ko, na-spoil ako (ng konti) dun sa ending ng friends.

amazing race... go christie! go texas! woot woo! sino kaya ang nanalo dito. buti pa si faye pa-absent-absent na lang para manood ng amazing race.

hmmm... haba ng comment ko a. i-post ko na lang kaya 'to? hehe. ayan pinost ko na. hehe.

By JAm, at 1:24 PM

the present miss red box attendant whisked us way to our reserved room. no miss red box attendant was not faye. although i'd wager that faye could do her job a lot better and would be willing to replace her, that is, if an incentive of a free videoke session every week, or should it be everyday(?), be packaged with her basic salary, plus other benefits.

as one would expect, nobody wanted to be the first to sing. but not surprisingly faye already had a mic on her hand and the remote was on mine. hehe. so i picked a couple of songs that they might like. i can't quite remember when the singing started and what song we sang to. or was it because of the first round of beer was slowly and gently dissipating their inhibitions?

as i was on the floor near the tv thumbing the remote looking for songs that were requested by the would be "songers", a short stabbing pain jolted me at my lower back. i almost forgot the constant excruciating ache at my pelvic area that i was continualy receiving, sometimes numbing my left leg. what a nice way to remind me.

meanwhile the rest of the gang arrived. cherry, kathryn, ivan and three of dj's foreigner friends. there was a total of sixteen people on the room. imagine the ruckus that we were making. they were on their second round of drinks as i was eating every pretzel piece i could get my fingers on. a lot more of drinking (them), eating (me) and singing (us) ensued. then we were told that we could now move to another room, a much larger room in which we were not packed as closely together and with better facilities, a larger tv, a chordless mic and a pool table, while we were singing our hearts out on kalapana's the hurt.

so we transfered to room 11 whence we continued where we left off, singing. i found joy's reaction to some of the chosen bakya songs mildly amusing.

joy : corny. what a corny song. corny song.

she commented that way on a couple of songs but then you'd hear her singing in the background to the very song which she just lambasted. seems like joy is fond of "corny" songs. the singing was great, especially when andrew finally had the chance to sing his requested tune, bohemian rhapsody. of course we sang along with andrew. the song was simply contagious.
indeed, we were stars in our own right that night.

but the night's real star came and conquered and left them yearning for more. ha! mister cuervo, you're such a suave.

lick. shoot. suck. they licked. they shot. they sucked. lickshootsuck. lickshootsuck.

after seeing the condition they were in, rowdier than before with matching flushed faces and gleeful expressions, i thought that they had just the right amount of alcohol in them. tipong sakto na yung tama. but i was a fool to think that they had enough. thus an encore was requested once more from jose.

they then staggerred, swayed and wobbled. their speech was slow, slurred and repetitive. pretty much normal behaviour exhibited by drunks. or the mentally incapable.

there were many and different ways they coped with the effects of liquior on their bodies and their heads. a friend almost instantly fell asleep on the couch and as his girlfriend was waking him up all he could utter was, "tagaytay! tagaytay!". (would you believe that we were supposed to go to tagaytay after our videoke session? syempre 'di na kami natuloy.) another vomitted and passed out. we had to carry her seemingly light but quite heavy body from red box to makati ave. the employees of red box were polite enough to bid us goodbye (and good ridance?) as we were exiting red box. it was already four o'clock in the morning then. all the while my other drunk friend was yammering non-stop.

xxxx : i... i... i... have to go home. and... and... and go to work tomorrow. and... and i think we should go home because i... i... have to work tomorrow.

funny thing is that when we arrived at their apartment and as she was on her bed she still said the same things over and over again.

after downing more than they could handle, i know for a fact (based on experience), that they wouldn't remember half of the things they did or the things that were done to them, with or without their consent. i don't know what is more painful, the splitting headache they would have after they wake up or the embarassment they felt when we made kwento sa kanila kung anong nangyari..

(i had the guilty pleasure of recording a snippet of what happened on a friends camera phone along with some incriminating pictures, labelled the "red box scandal" hehe. [although, i have to say that the "pisay scandal" parts one and two is still better.] i just don't know if the video and pics are still available from the saif phone.)

i think i should end my weekend story here. the end.

(but technically i should still continue because my weekend didn't stopped there. later that day i went to glorietta to watch dodgeball with another set of friends, feeling a little bit tired from the hoopla that happened and sleepy because i only got to sleep for a total of five hours... blahblahblah.... yadayadayada...)

i wonder what the weekend holds for me...

my lemon lime

where was i? a, o yeah...

meanwhile herbee and albee were at giligan's waiting for a table to free up. after twenty minutes or so of waiting and pestering bonga to check if it was our turn to be seated, herbee fetched us from gerry's to finally have dinner.

on the way to giligan's second floor, someone lightly tapped my arm, (or was it faye?), prompting me to look at the direction of the culprit. one look and i knew that i don't know who he was. it turns out that he thought that i was someone he knew (dennis?). eh. foo!

we seated ourselves quickly and bonga ordered the food. it was already past nine when the dishes arrived. we devoured our way through some delicious grub, crispy pata, sinigang, inihaw na pusit, manok at liempo and fish. for a quite a few minutes only crickets were heard at our table. galit-galit muna! we left giligan's with our bellies full, satisfied at last. salamat bonga!

after a quick stop at the terminal, where herbee and lei rode their respective epeks bound for home, me, bonga, albee and faye were on our way to gb timezone to play some games, obviously, burn some calories along the process and meet up with allen, which we were supposed to catch up with at around ten-ish. it was already half past ten then.

on the way there i saw an old friend, yet again. i often invited this particular friend of mine to eat somewhere, her treat. hehe. and in return she too cajoled me to make libre her. i wasn't able to greet her because there were so many people in between us. i could've voiced her name but i'd wager that she won't hear me because the music from the bar that we were passing would only drown my efforts. so i opted for the next best thing. i sent her a text message. (el cheapo mwah)

note: i've omitted the smileys on the following messages. also, i tried to write it in verbatim but i couldn't. nonetheless the thought of our text conversation remains.

sya : i'm with my cousins. videoke? masaya yan. may request ako sa'yo. yung 'ewan' ng apo.

guess what i played at timezone... yes, i won. but i was quite disappointed with the kind of players there. mostly turtles with fixed custom strings. eheh. also played ddr, basic nga lang. it was hard catching my breath after those three "grueling" stages. goes to show how fit i am.

saturday. {00:01}

time to link up with dj, andrew, allen and the rest of dj's posse at red box. parted with albee and bonga after some hasty goodbyes. made our way to red box and quaintly seated ourselves at the waiting area. and waited. but not that long.

so the rest of the gang arrived swiftly. about five to ten minutes after we contacted them. (they all came from a bar located at gb.) introductions were appropriately made. although the only names i could remember where joy (dj's gf), ai and kevin (a foreigner who came much later).

as we were waiting for faye to confirm our reservation, allen commented on how late our gimik started.

at last we were on our way to get our ear drums thumped and our vocal chords ripped...

tomorrow : my preaching starts. till then...

i'm drained. maybe because of the myriad of numbers that i crunched early this morning and the insurmountable amount of work that is now before me.

it hurts so fine

friday.

my weekend officialy started with an unsolicited yet undoubtedly well appreciated invitation to share dinner with a couple of new friends and a videoke session afterwards with some old buddies. of course there was a minute of hesitation due to the fact that i was supposed to play guardia sibil at our unhabited house. but the idea of spending the rest of the night chowing down on some grub and singing my heart out was more fun, to say the least, than going home eating reheated food while watching michael v. crack jokes. besides i was actually trying to find a gimik i could crash 'coz i cancelled on our bowling tournament due to back pains.

(as you've might noticed, [or not], my blog posting stopped for around two days since i had to excuse myself from work due to the aforementioned injury, a slipped disc, perhaps, my mom said and a friend suggested. concerned parties [meron nga ba?] need not to worry because i'll be having my check up during the week or if not, this coming weekend.)

i was supposed to link up with faye and her co-workers at around half past six so i still have about an hour and a half to burn after office. since staying at the office was totaly an absurd option, considering that everyone else was on their way to the tournament, i opted to go place myself in a "tournament" of my own, where holding a smaller ball resting atop a slender joystick and mashing a couple of buttons were involved.

thirty bucks, eight wins and a jeepney ride later i was at the lobby of gt tower trying to contact faye and tell her where i was. patrick garcia probably transferred my call for about eight times.

as i was about to ride the first available elevator up, i saw an old friend. or rather she saw me.

sya : parang kilala ko 'to a.

instant smiles all around. naturally i was half expecting to see her there being that she worked there.

sya : walang nagbago sayo.

as our chatting was just starting to get a little bit warmer, my phone rang. great. it was faye telling me that she was on her way down and i should then go up. for a second i was thinking of ditching them in exchange for a leisurely walk with her. but what kind of a friend would i be if i did that? after some hasty goodbyes i actually coaxed her, albeit with a little reluctance, to commit to a gimik of our own. after all, how could she resist my charms? hehe. but seriously, i believe she agreed because she a very corteous girl.

twelth floor here i go. met up with faye. she said that she can't introduce me to the people on the table because don't know their names. but surprisingly they knew her.

the nights supposed main attraction, a live performance of a band, was already over when we arrived. so there was nothing left to do but to drink. they drank. i just and watched them. they were talking but i can't follow their conversation because of the distance between us and the blaring music. nonetheless i had fun tinkering with faye's new phone. after a few pictures here and there, a couple of games played, and little or few words traded we were hungrily on our way to gerry's, 'coz faye wanted to use her coupons with freebies, for a feast compliments of bonga.

as one might expect on a friday night, the eating establishments were packed and a little bit overflowing with people. still we enlisted ourselves on the cue and waited for our seats. waiting for our table gave me a chance to ogle at the gorgeous nocturnal women. best time i had waiting in line.

meanwhile herbee at albee were at giligan's...

hmmm... the day is not over, the night is young... i'm not yet finished.

will try to continue later. for now i am late for an appointment.

later.

i've said earlier that most probably i won't go to tomorrows activities because i've already seen the people i wish to see. i would like to correct myself.

i've already seen most of the people i wish to see.

glad we're clear on that matter.

ringu

a while ago i was listening to l'arc~en~ciel's hole, the song that was played while the credits of the ring was rolling. of course i was reminded of the movie. i remembered that i watched it alone on ken's pc with the lights turned off at about midnight. ring 1 was great with its perfect timing with the pangulat sequences and creepy soundtrack. ring 2 was bleh. the background music was still good, reminiscent of ring 1, but the story was darn weak and incoherent. and the ending was simply a mess.

---

when oli was watching the ring series i decided to, as always, play a little prank on him. back then my hair was quite long, just the right length so that i could drape my locks in front of my face and cover it ala sadako. my plan was to slowly walk towards oli, approaching him from the back and plant my face as closely as i could on his shoulder. well oli caught me before i made any move. (probably because of his paranoid state at that time.) i was bummed that i didn't surprise him but nonetheless i evoked a resounding, "gago ka talaga!" from him. good enough for me.

---

about a month ago i heard that hollywood was remaking the grudge, yet another japanese suspence thriller flick. is this a fad? or is hollywood simply running out of original horror films?
